Dog Training

HSOMH is pleased to introduce our new dog training classes, designed to support dogs and their people at every stage. We offer both group classes and private sessions to suit your needs and learning style.

From Puppy Junior and Senior classes to our structured Levels Program, each class helps build skills, confidence, and strong bonds in a supportive group setting.

All Behaviour Training Sessions are thoughtfully developed by a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer, using positive, evidence-based techniques that build confidence, strengthen bonds, and set your dog up for long-term success.

Private Training Classes:

Our Private Behaviour Training Sessions are designed for dogs and handlers looking for personalized, one-on-one support tailored to their unique needs and goals.

These sessions are ideal for dogs working on general obedience skills, as well as those experiencing behavioural challenges such as reactivity toward other dogs, fearfulness, under-socialization, impulse control issues, separation anxiety, nuisance barking, or stereotypic behaviours. Using positive, evidence-based training methods, we focus on reducing stress and reactivity, building confidence, and teaching practical life skills that help dogs thrive in their everyday environment.

Sessions can take place in person or via video conference, depending on the severity and nature of the behaviour concerns and what will best support your dog’s success.

Email support is included between booked sessions.

Adult Dog Group Training: Levels Program

Build your skills together, one step at a time. Our Levels Program is designed to strengthen the bond between you and your dog while advancing your training in a supportive, structured way. As you progress, you’ll focus on improving obedience, communication, and reliability, even in the presence of real-world distractions.

By the end of the program, you and your pup will have the confidence and skills needed to represent the very best of responsible dog ownership. Graduates are well prepared to become ambassador dogs and pursue certification through the Canadian Kennel Club’s Canine Good Neighbour Test.

Duration: 6 weeks (1 hour per week)
Format: Purchase a multi-pass with 6 classes, and you choose the dates!
Cost: $390 total

Junior Puppy Class:

Our Junior Puppy class is designed for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old and focuses on building strong foundations during this important stage of development. Early socialization is key, so there’s no need to wait until your puppy has completed all of their vaccinations. Puppies with their first set of vaccines are welcome to join with veterinary approval.

This class introduces basic obedience while helping you build clear, positive communication with your puppy using reward-based training methods. It’s a great fit for both individual owners and families, and creates a supportive environment for learning and socialization.

Duration: 6 weeks (1 hour per week)

Cost: $390 total

Senior Puppy Class:

This 6-week Beginner training class is designed for puppies between 5 and 8 months old and builds on the foundations introduced in our Junior Puppy program. You’ll work together to teach your puppy behaviours like sit, down, stand, wait, and loose-leash walking, while also building the foundation for a reliable recall. The whole family is welcome to join in this fun, engaging class.

We place a strong emphasis on positive socialization, addressing common behavioural concerns, and using interactive games to build trust and strengthen your bond. Graduates of this class are eligible to move on to our Levels Program. This class is best suited for friendly, social dogs.

Duration: 6 weeks (1 hour per week)

Cost: $390 total

Adult Dog Group Training: Reactivity Class

Walking a reactive dog can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and isolating, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Our Reactive Dog Class is designed to help you and your dog build confidence, strengthen your bond, and create calmer walks through compassionate, science-based training.

In a safe, structured, and judgment-free environment, you’ll learn to read your dog’s body language, manage triggers, improve leash handling, and support calmer choices.

Please note this is not a beginner class. It includes other reactive dogs and multiple distractions. To ensure the best fit, please contact our team at dogclasses@hsomh.ca or (905) 845-1551 x 150 before booking. If the class is not suitable for your dog, we will transfer your payment to private training credits.

Duration: 6 weeks (1 hour per week)
Format: First class is online, the remainder are in-person
Cost: $695 total
