HOW DID WAYNE GET HERE?
Wayne came to us as a stray, and is still very much a puppy in a big, strong body! Wayne has clearly had some previous training and understands many basic obedience cues exceptionally well. However, we're helping him learn that working with people can be a calm, positive experience. He's already building confidence with familiar staff and showing us just how much potential he has.

PERSONALITY:
- Very intelligent and highly capable of learning
- Knows his sit, down, name and recall cues well!
- Food motivated and enjoys treats
- Willing to engage with his handlers and is building positive relationships with familiar people
- Still learning how to regulate his emotions and manage his puppy impulses
- Can become overstimulated quickly, especially when excited
- May pace, circle, jump or become mouthy when his arousal level gets too high
- Can be nervous and conflicted in new situations, despite wanting to engage
- Working on loose-leash walking and can become easily distracted
- Still developing confidence and learning appropriate ways to interact with people and his environment
- Will need his house training restarted once he arrives home
- Difficult to load into a vehicle, but settles once he is inside

WHAT TYPE OF HOME IS WAYNE LOOKING FOR?
- An experienced dog owner who is comfortable with large guardian breeds and understands their needs
- Someone committed to continuing his training
- A family prepared to be patient with a young dog who will have ups and downs as he continues to learn
- A home with children 16+, although children may be slightly younger if the family has significant dog experience and is committed to careful management
- A fenced yard is required to give Wayne a safe space for exercise and prevent roaming or unwanted chasing behaviours
- A detached home with a private entrance is required; a busy shared-entry environment would not be ideal for Wayne
- Can potentially live with a resident dog of similar size, temperament and play style, following careful introductions and with a high level of management
- A resident dog would need to be comfortable with a young, energetic and sometimes impulsive adolescent
- If you have a cat and apply to adopt Wayne, we will cat test him
- A family who understands that his size and strength, combined with his puppy impulsivity, mean that thoughtful supervision and management will be important
- Someone who will continue helping Wayne build confidence, impulse control, leash skills and positive engagement with his people
- Most importantly, Wayne needs an experienced, patient adopter who is ready to put in the time and work to help him grow into the wonderful adult dog he has the potential to become
