HOW DID MAPLE GET HERE?
Maple came into our care when his previous family could no longer care for him. This smart Australian Shepherd has made wonderful progress with our training team and thrives with clear communication, structure, and opportunities to use his brain.

PERSONALITY:
- Very intelligent, food motivated, and quick to learn routines and cues
- Sweet with familiar people and builds relationships with new people relatively quickly
- Enjoys calm, sniffy walks and can walk beautifully on a loose leash when his needs are met
- Knows sit and down and has good recall when engaged with his handler
- Curious and attentive but can become fixated on things around him
- May become frustrated when he cannot access something he wants, which can lead to jumping or vocalizing
- Has shown some fixation toward dogs on walks but is generally redirectable
- Has made significant progress with barrier frustration and is learning that calm behaviour gets him what he needs
- Has a history of resource guarding spaces and high-value items, which will require proactive management
- May experience isolation/separation distress and will need thoughtful support in this area
- Has foundational housetraining

WHAT TYPE OF HOME IS MAPLE LOOKING FOR?
- An experienced home familiar with herding breeds and managing resource guarding, barrier frustration, and separation-related behaviours
- A detached home with a securely fenced yard, no shared walls, and no shared entryways
- An adult-only home; older children may be considered with appropriate experience and management
- A family able to provide plenty of physical exercise, mental enrichment, sniffing, exploring, and continued training
- May be able to live with a well-matched dog or cat following introductions
