HOW DID MIA GET HERE?
Mia came to the shelter through another organization. She is a goofy, people-loving girl who is learning that the world can be safe, fun, and full of toys!
PERSONALITY:
- A goofy, playful girl with lots of personality!
- Loves being around people and staying close to her humans
- Enjoys entertaining herself with toys and enrichment
- Big fan of stuffies, balls, Kongs, and even just tossing toys around by herself
- Food motivated and happy to work for kibble or special treats
- Very smart and quick to pick up on cues
- Can become overwhelmed in busy or crowded situations
- May try to redirect her feelings into play by zooming around, grabbing toys, jumping, or getting mouthy
- Sensitive to handling, especially with new people
- Can become frustrated on leash and may grab or bite the leash when overstimulated
- Strong girl who can pull hard on walks, though she does better on a harness
- Vocal at times and may demand bark when she wants something
- Has shown some mild guarding behaviours when unsure, but has been improving as she gains confidence and trust
- Will need to work on her house training in her new home
- Higher energy girl who will need both physical exercise and mental enrichment to thrive
WHAT TYPE OF HOME IS MIA LOOKING FOR?
- A detached or fully separate home (no condos, shared walls, or shared entryways)
- A fenced yard is required
- A home where everyone is 16+
- An experienced family comfortable managing large, energetic dogs and reading body language
- A home committed to continuing training
- A family able to provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, structure, and decompression time
- Would likely do best as only dog as she settles into a new home
- Could potentially live with a very dog-savvy cat with heavy management and slow introductions
- A calmer environment where she can build confidence at her own pace
Mia is eating Purina HA due to suspected allergies. Any dietary changes should be discussed with a veterinarian. Mia's adoption fee is reduced to help cover the cost of her food at the time of adoption.
Mia is a fun, intelligent, and affectionate dog with a huge heart and lots of potential. With the right guidance and understanding, this goofy girl is sure to blossom into an amazing companion!
