Hound * Spayed/Neutered * Male * 5 Years Old
Profile:
On Saturday March 14th from 9am-5pm and Sunday March 15th from 10am-4pm, Come meet Monty, spend some time with him in our yard, and see if he might be the dog you didn't know you were looking for! No appointment is necessary but bring EVERYONE in your household, as that's part of the adoption process. If things go well (and Monty works his usual charm), you can complete an adoption application and speak with an adoption counsellor on the spot!
**This animal is behind the scenes and cannot be viewed during animal viewing hours.**
Thanks to a very generous donor, Monty's adoption fee is sponsored! Sponsored? What does that mean, you may ask? That means that someone has pre-paid Monty's adoption fee so that his forever family can focus on preparing to welcome their new dog and Monty will have a $0 adoption fee!
HOW DID MONTY GET HERE?
Transferred to us from another shelter and he's now ready for a fresh start and his perfect forever home!
PERSONALITY:
- Extremely food motivated - this boy will do just about anything for kibble, beef liver, rollover jerky, bully sticks, Kongs and more, which makes training both fun and rewarding!
- Working hard on his impulse control and making wonderful progress every day!
- Friendly, fun, and delightfully quirky with a personality that keeps you smiling
- Loves attention and truly bonds with his people
- Walks beautifully on leash, especially after he's had a chance to zoom it out
- Thrives on walks - especially long, sniffy, nose-to-the-ground adventures
- Playful and goofy - absolutely adores fetch and chasing balls
- Engaged and eager to learn - highly responsive and loves training time
- Smart cookie - knows sit (verbal) and down (hand signal) and enjoys showing off
- Can be excitable, but now often offers a polite sit instead of jumping
- Can be sensitive and does best with people who respect his space!
- Crate trained!
- Reactive to other dogs on leash, but very manageable with distance and guidance
- Chases large vehicles (like SUVs) at times, though he redirects quickly with treats
- Resource guards high-value toys (like Kongs/nylabones), but is very manageable
- Great foundational housetraining, but can have accidents if left alone too long
WHAT TYPE OF HOME IS MONTY LOOKING FOR?
- An adult-only (18+) home
- An experienced or very dedicated home that understands resource guarding and dog body language
- No other pets (no dogs or cats)
- Ideally no shared walls due to potential alert/demand barking
- A fenced backyard to safely get his zoomies out and decompress after walks
- A home committed to continuing his training and confidence building
- A home that can provide daily walks, sniffy enrichment, and mental stimulation
Monty is currently taking Gabapentin to help with shelter stress. While he may not need this long term once settled into a home, any medication changes should only be made in consultation with a veterinarian.
