For Young Animal Lovers

The Kindness Club is an evening program for children who want to learn more about animals. Join us for eight fun-filled weeks of animals, guest speakers, crafts, games and many opportunities to find out more about our amazing animal friends.

This program is for 6- to 12-year-olds, and runs three times per year in the fall, winter, and spring. There is a Junior group (6- to 8-year-olds) and a Senior group (9- to 12-year-olds). There is a maximum of 10 children per group.

Please note: this program is education-based and does not involve volunteering with shelter animals!

General Information

The Kindness Club inspires children to learn about animals through one central theme: kindness. By building habits of compassion and empathy, members are encouraged to be kind to animals, each other, and their community.

Each week focuses on a different animal-related topic, brought to life with fun crafts, games, and activities. Members will meet an animal each week and, depending on the topic, may also learn from special guests like veterinarians or animal control officers.

Topics include:

  • Dogs & cats
  • Small animals
  • Reptiles
  • Wildlife
  • Animal safety

Club members will also choose a “kennel pal,” a shelter animal they can follow the progress of. Together, we explore why some animals are adopted quickly while others take longer to find their forever homes.

During meetings, members will meet child-friendly animals from the shelter as well as visiting pets brought in by guest speakers. While participants will not be cleaning kennels or working with shelter dogs, they’ll have plenty of opportunities for safe, hands-on learning.
