For Animal Advocates in Training

Humane Heroes is the perfect program for animal-loving youth ages 13 to 16. Over eight consecutive weeks, participants will explore the world of animal advocacy, discover how our shelter operates, and get to know the incredible animals in our care.

General Information

Offered three times a year, in fall, winter, and spring, this two-hour weekly program blends engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and volunteer experience. It’s a fun and meaningful way to learn, connect, and make a difference.

Students working toward their community service hours will earn credit for the time they spend volunteering at the shelter. The hour of volunteering may include enrichment toy making, reading to the animals or animal socialization.

Hours

Humane Heroes meets once a week on Mondays or Tuesdays for eight weeks, with sessions offered in the fall, winter, and spring. Each meeting runs from 5 – 7 p.m.

Location

Humane Heroes meets at the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton. The address is 445 Cornwall Road in Oakville.

Cost

The fee for Humane Heroes is $385.

Age & Group Size

Humane Heroes is for youth ages 13-16. Each session is limited to a maximum of 10 children.

Animal Interaction

We do our best to have cat and small animal socialization available from weeks two through eight. However this is dependent on having animals suitable for socialization in the shelter. If we do not feel there are any safe animals to interact with an alternative activity will be provided. We cannot guarantee an animal interaction every class.

Registration

Registration our for Winter and Spring sessions is now open.
