The Charlie Fund is a lifeline for animals in need of urgent or specialized medical care at the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton. Thanks to this fund, pets facing injury, illness, or extraordinary circumstances get a second chance at life. Every contribution helps turn hardship into healing.
The fund began in 1985, when a Border Collie named Charlie arrived at the shelter with a severely injured leg that couldn’t be saved. A special fundraising campaign covered the cost of his surgery, and with the community’s support, Charlie recovered and went on to live a long, happy life in a new home.
What started with one dog’s journey has grown into a lifesaving tradition. For more than 36 years, the Charlie Fund has provided emergency medical care for animals in crisis, expanding from just a handful of cases each year to more than 100 annually.
