How Fostering Works

Fostering gives animals a safe, loving space to heal and prepare for adoption. Whether it’s caring for a playful kitten, a recovering pet, or one who simply needs extra love, foster families make a life-changing difference.

We provide the food, supplies, and medical care — you provide the safe, loving environment. Foster periods can range from a few days to several months, depending on the animal’s needs.

Please note: We are not accepting new foster applications at this time. Check back soon to see when applications reopen.

General Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • All household members must agree to fostering
  • Live within a reasonable distance of the shelter and have reliable transportation
  • Able to provide a safe, pet-friendly home
  • Complete a police check
  • Cannot foster for another shelter or rescue at the same time

Current Openings

Our foster needs change often — from litters of kittens to pets recovering from surgery. When applications are open, available opportunities will be posted through our volunteer portal.

How to Apply

To become a foster parent, please complete an application. Once we have received your application, we will contact you. Successful applicants will be required to complete a police check and online training prior to receiving their first foster pet.

FAQs

Some pets need more than our shelter can provide — such as newborns who require round-the-clock feeding, animals recovering from medical procedures, or pets who are too stressed in a shelter environment.

  • Cats and kittens
  • Dogs and puppies
  • Small animals (hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.)
  • Birds
  • Exotic pets (reptiles, amphibians)
  • Farm animals (for rural foster homes)

It varies — some animals need a week, others may need a few months. We’ll work with you to find the right fit.

We supply food, supplies, and veterinary care. You provide the home, time, and love.
