My love for animals has always inspired me to support the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton. Over the years, we’ve met so many wonderful cats and adopted Marshall and Guinness, who were both incredible companions. Marshall has since passed, and now we share our home with Pebbles, who turns 13 this year and has been with us for almost two years.
I’ve been a monthly donor for many years because I believe consistent support for animals is so important. Every amount helps, and animals give us unconditional love, so it feels right to give that love back and pay it forward. It means the world to me knowing my gift helps animals receive life-saving surgery and find their forever homes. I’ve increased my monthly gift a few times and also take part in special initiatives like the photo contest. Pebbles was even a January calendar girl. Supporting HSOMH is my way of giving unconditional love back to animals.
I support several animal charities, but I began giving to HSOMH some years ago. I switched to monthly giving for convenience, but at year end, when I reviewed my donations, I realized I had not increased my monthly amount in years to account for inflation.
I have seen the cost of cat food rise dramatically during the pandemic due to supply chain issues, and prices have not come back down. My own household costs have also increased. HSOMH is not immune to these same financial pressures, and it is easy to overlook when donations happen automatically each month.
