Join us at a pivotal moment in our story.
The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton (HSOMH) has proudly served animals and the people who love them since 1936. We are more than a shelter – we are a place where compassion, education, and action work together to strengthen the human–animal bond.
Today, we are stepping boldly into our next chapter – having recently completed a full organizational rebrand, preparing to launch a bold new strategic plan, and planning for relocation and the creation of a brand new facility supported by a major capital campaign.
To help us realize our exciting future, we are seeking passionate, engaged, community minded leaders to join our volunteer Board of Directors.
What we’re looking for:
The HSOMH Board of Directors is the governance backbone of the organization. In collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team, the Board sets strategic direction, provides oversight, and helps shepherd the organization through transformational change.
This is not a passive board seat. Our future is one of growth, innovation, and deeper community impact. We are looking for Board members who are energized by possibility and committed to helping shape a stronger, more responsive animal welfare organization.
We are seeking members who are eager to:
• Provide skilled strategic governance
• Champion HSOMH in the community
• Contribute ideas, insights, and constructive dialogue
• Lean into meaningful work as the organization evolves
• Help us prepare for a significant capital campaign and future facility build
• Support a positive, respectful Board culture where collaboration and goodwill are essential
Fit matters deeply. HSOMH is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are looking for people who bring both professional expertise and a generous team spirit.
Who you are:
You will thrive on our Board if you are:
• Proud to be an ambassador for HSOMH and our mission
• Energized by growth and change, and comfortable working at a strategic level
• Open minded, collaborative, and committed to healthy governance dynamics
• A team player who enjoys contributing to diverse initiatives
• Passionate about animal welfare and the impact HSOMH has on our communities
Skills and experience that would be an asset:
While we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, we are especially interested in candidates with one or more of the following:
• CPA designation
• Human Resources leadership experience
• Legal expertise, particularly in the charitable or nonprofit sector
• Professional experience with construction, capital projects, or facility development
• Senior management and governance experience
• Strong ties to the Oakville and/or Milton communities
• Strategy and policy development skills
• Charity or nonprofit Board/committee experience
• Proven leadership and high emotional intelligence
If your expertise isn’t listed but you believe you can help shape HSOMH’s future, we’d still love to hear from you.
If you’re enthusiastic about making a lasting impact on the welfare of animals and strengthening the connection between pets and people in our community, we encourage you to apply. Please apply by sending your resume and cover letter to nominations@hsomh.ca by April 30, 2026.
